On these courses we can give expert and individual attention to each student – it’s a bit like the small school classes issue. It’s much, much better for the learning to dive experience. As we are teaching your group only you don’t have to worry about holding up the other people if you are slightly nervous as we can move at a slower pace.

The PADI Open Water course is the best entry level option and the very best way to see the natural wonders of the Barrier Reef.

This internationally recognised PADIcourse will, upon completion, qualify you to dive throughout the world. And what better place to do it than the clear warm waters of the stunning outer Great Barrier Reef north of Port Douglas.

Free dive

We offer a free extra dive on the Open Water Course so instead of just 4 Open Water dives you will each get 5 great dives out on the pristine outer Great Barrier Reef.

Cancellation policy

We have a unique policy that if, for any reason, anyone wishes to cancel at the end of day one of the course we offer a refund of $400. No other dive centre in the area makes such a commitment.

Learn in style

With some of the best learn to dive facilities in Queensland, you will be sped out on Poseidon or Calypso, the sleek and fast catamarans to the outer Great Barrier Reef – and a great place to complete your Open Water course in style – but only after skills training in our tropically-styled Port Douglas pool.

Course length

This is a 3 day course with prior PADI eLearning.

8.45 – 4.30 for the first  pool day.

7.45 – 4.30 for the last 2 on the catamaran.

Important medical information for the Open Water Course

By Australian Law (2013) each Open Water student needs to complete a medical declaration that they are medically healthy or in several very important cases obtain written medical clearance from a physician.

If you do not have any medical issues and can answer “no” to the 3 questions below you DO NOT need a medical.

You WILL need a medical examination from a physician if you:

1. Have any medical conditions mentioned in this Queensland Government Medical Declaration.

2. Are over 45 years old.

3. Have a body mass index(BMI) over 30 (linked BMI chart) and a waist circumference greater than 102cms for males and 88cms for females.

This is both sensible and law in Australia. If you need a medical we would strongly encourage you to get it in your country/city of origin. Here is the appropriate PADI form that would need completing .

Please note that active asthma within the last 10 years will probably prevent you from diving.

This website will help you find a doctor within Australia that is qualified to complete your medical if needed.

Flying after diving restrictions

Please be aware that after diving you must wait at least 18 hours before flying.

This is a PADI safety regulation. You would end diving at 2.30pm so you can fly anytime after 8.30am the following day.
